Nickelback - Lullaby NOT COMPLETED.

Music Videos are a marketing technique for the artist to sell their music to a wider audience. The music video should represent the artist in their image and style of music.

Nickelback has produced a music video about a struggling man who has to come to terms with the loss of his wife due to the birth of his son. After the torment of his loss and the idea of giving his son up for adoption, the young man decides to keep his child resulting in a happy ending. It is not uncommon for the artist to have a narrative music video to market their song, as it can attract a wide audience in the same way as a film. The main difference between films and narrative music videos being in a film, the sound supports what is happening on screen, where as in a music video what is happening on screen is to represent the song.

Nickelback's video has taking a non-circular, linear plot, with a straight forward storyline. It could be argued that there is a sense of enigma is the young man will keep his child or give him up for adoption, however it is very limited. I feel it is not needed, the story is not supposed to be cryptic or thrilling, but delicate and heart warming. Relating to the lyrics. "You're not sure, you can take this anymore"; coping with the death. "I'm reaching out, to let you know that you're not alone"; Nickelback is giving the words of comfort.
